Kinder Surprise

Kinder Surprise is a white and milk chocolate egg which has a capsule inside containing a toy. Kinder Surprise is made by the German subsidiary of the Italian food brand Ferrero. It started the surprise egg idea in 1973 and other companies copied it since. Now there is a huge variety of surprise eggs all over the world as well as a different Kinder egg surprise called Kinder Joy.

My unboxing video below is an Ice Age 4 limited edition series box of 3.

Europe seems to have the largest range of surprise eggs, and the U.S.A. the least, because of a law that bans toys being hidden in food, so surprises like Kinder cannot be sold there.

Beware: The U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 25,000 Kinder Surprise eggs in 2010 alone and have detained people for trying to 'smuggle' them in! So don't try to take or order it into the U.S.A! Cheer up, because there are thousands of Kinder Surprise eggs being opened and unboxed on YouTube so all you U.S. kids can experience the joy there.

I will take you through the whole process of buying and opening a Kinder Surprise egg. Here it is displayed in a supermarket amongst the other candies / lollies:

Here it is up-close:

This is the Australian edition, made in Argentina. Only the wrapper differs from country to country, the chocolate egg and toys are the same world-wide although there are some special toys in European eggs which other countries do not get :(

 It is easy to unwrap.

You can see where the two halves are joined together.

This is where the egg has to be pressed to open without braking (In cold weather it might still break into smaller pieces).

Tip: You can tell how fresh a Kinder Surprise is by how shiny and clear the outer milk chocolate layer is. If it's old it will have a dull color, no shine, with white markings and scratches.

Once opened, inside you can see is made with white chocolate (never shiny) to signify the egg white and the toy capsule is yellow to signify the egg yolk.

Open it and you will find a little toy with instructions.

A warning telling you the toy is a choking hazard for kids under 3.

And a flier which shows you what toy you got, how to put it together (most Kinder Surprise toys come in pieces which have to be assembled) and the other characters in the series (Of which there are many, and ever changing).

This time we got a little Smurfs toy,  released for the Smurfs 2 movie.

He doesn't require too much assembly, only came in 3 pieces.

There, all done. We have a little Smurf chef :)
